Welcome to Democracy! Here’s Your Pitchfork…

One of the wonderful things about turning 18 is the many milestones that come your way quickly. Some of them aren't necessarily a cause for joy such as now being considered an adult in the eyes of the law meaning that any faux pas/screw ups/mistakes now have far more far-reaching ramifications and potential penalties. For men, turning 18 means also registering their availability for the draft via Selective Service. There was a recent challenge to…

It’s Drive Your Car to Work Day!

Even though Nicholas' new Camry came home with us late Friday night, a combination of it being a wonderful day to recover from the mad dashing about of the previous two days and the cul-de-sac being completely filled with cars last night meant that Nick's first drive to work at the helm of his own vehicle was this afternoon. Don't let the intent concentration fool you...I can tell you he was doing a big time…

Welcome Nick’s New Ride!

Yesterday, we all went car shopping in Johnston County whilst President Biden was making his pitch for vaccination in North Raleigh and had identified a few cars that appeared to be interesting. We had come to the conclusion that it'd probably be better to get a car sooner than later so that Nicholas would have time to get comfortable with driving that he hasn't really been able to do in this past year. We weren't…

Well, Now You’ve Gone and Done It!

The universe puts us into places where we can learn. They are never easy places, but they are right. Wherever we are is the right place and the right time. The pain that sometimes comes is part of the process of constantly being born.Delenn -- Babylon 5 It truly seems like it was yesterday that we were bundling you off to Kindergarten for your first day of school and here you are graduating from high…

Never Surrender Your Dreams!

G'Quon wrote, "There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities; it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be…

Long Time, No See!

Tonight was a special surprise for Nicholas at the reunion of his fifth grade class at Washington Elementary School in downtown Raleigh. So many familiar faces and it's shocking just how grown up these kids are! It was lovely seeing some friends from yesteryear as well as three of the four fifth grade teachers from his year (Mr Shaw was enjoying retirement in Myrtle Beach SC). Of the four of them, only Mrs Devoto is…

She’s Better Than Sominex!

Not that Nicholas needs a whole lot of help in that department but when Mistletoe snuggles with you, you may as well forget about staying conscious! :)

If This Doesn’t Scare You, Nothing Ever Will!

It's official...Nicholas has secured his level 1 learner's permit under the NC graduated licencing law. *NOW* I understand that look of terror my father had when *I* was taking check-rides with him... :)

Driver’s Education in the COVID-19 Era!

Nicholas completed his required driver education classes before the schools were shut down in March due to the virus and it took more than a few months for them to figure out how to handle the behind-the-wheel requirement. Other than the tendency to drift in the lane of travel a bit...he passed the check-rides with flying colours!

Nick’s First Day of Work!

Well, he obviously got the job! And in the months since, he's thrived in whatever roles they've had him doing. He started out in the service end of the house (taking orders, working the window, running orders out the door) and is now spending most of his time tending the grille with the odd bit of dish washing and service shift every now and then. To a person, every manager has said they love having…
