Tonight was a special surprise for Nicholas at the reunion of his fifth grade class at Washington Elementary School in downtown Raleigh.
So many familiar faces and it’s shocking just how grown up these kids are! It was lovely seeing some friends from yesteryear as well as three of the four fifth grade teachers from his year (Mr Shaw was enjoying retirement in Myrtle Beach SC). Of the four of them, only Mrs Devoto is still teaching but she’s planning on retiring in three years.
There were a few video tributes from teachers who couldn’t attend including a special one from Mr Bastin who started as a student teacher who had just recently moved to Wake County from England. I’ll never forget the year the 5000-1 longshot Leicester City Foxes captured the Premier League championship…he was so happy his mum back home could enjoy that once in a lifetime occurrence!
All in all, it was a wonderful event and we’re looking forward to the next one in a couple of years when it’s Katie and Alex’s turn to catch up with their fifth-grade classmates! 🙂
