Katie’s first dance convention was the 2016 Hickory Hoedown in Hickory NC. This first night was at a BBQ shack way out in the middle of nowhere north of Hickory which had a lot of BBQ as well as dancing as the troupes performed their routines.
Purple Troupe ended up with an unexpected shout-out as their song “Butterbean” had some technical difficulties so whilst the stagehands were fixing the audio, all of Purple Troupe got to announce their names and ages for the audience. Perhaps the biggest shock of the night was that statuesque red-head who was easily the tallest girl in Purple troupe (Miss Tori) revealing she was a mere *EIGHT* years old. By comparison, Katie and Miss Mackenzie were already ten years old and the oldest girls in the troupe!
The crew eventually got the audio sorted and the performances could continue which included a stage invasion by Alex dancing to one of the final group numbers. He’s such a ham! 🙂
