This year’s Christmas was relatively low-key and after a rather hectic year, that was more than welcome.
There were presents, there was ham and an almighty spread of good eats, and just some general hanging about enjoying each other’s company.
Mistletoe was doing her level best to help Alexander open his present. Well, it was more like “Mistletoe loves ripping paper with teeth and claws” more than actual helping for Alex to finally get the box open and see what was on offer.
To be fair, last year’s present for him was a big box full of packing material and a manila envelope taped to the lid with his gift. He asked me to not do that again and in the interest of transparency I did comply fully with that request.
This year’s box was empty! 😉
I don’t think he was terribly cross when I pulled his gift out of my pocket and he saw what he was getting for Christmas… 🙂
We didn’t get a chance to play the usual games as Katie’s new phone took a while to clone her old one which was definitely ready for the bin. We had gotten an exceptional deal for an iPhone 12 to replace her old iPhone 7 and I have to say the new process for upgrading is really nifty.
You turn on Bluetooth and the old phone detects there’s a new iPhone ready to be loaded. The new phone shows a circle with wildly gyrating blue pixels which the old phone captures with its camera and then it proceeds to clone everything over Bluetooth.
Bluetooth transfers aren’t particularly fast but it’s way faster than backing up the old phone to iTunes and then restoring that backup over the top of the new phone. I’ve now done this with a iPhone 12, a 13, and a 14 Pro and it’s much more agreeable doing it this way. We had to manually kick the SIM so that it’d pick up the new cellular connection (and then turn off Wi-Fi so that inbound calls wouldn’t ring to both phones) but all-in-all, it’s a very painless upgrade.
Before we knew it, it was time to head back home so Nicholas could report for duty the following morning.
Here’s hoping all have had a happy Christmas and continue to have a happy and safe festive season! 🙂
