Today’s adventure finds us celebrating Gram’s birthday (won’t tell you which one!) here in Raleigh at one of our local Japanese steak houses called “Kanki”.
Sadly, they don’t take reservations on Saturdays so we figured the North Raleigh location would be much more likely to have us seated quickly than the one down the way at Crabtree Valley Mall.
And indeed it did look bleak as we got there and were quoted about a hour and a half wait.
Fortunately, the friendly gods were smiling upon us and we’d barely waited about 20 minutes before making our way to our teppan for a lovely show and once again having the wish for unlimited funds because I’d so put a teppan grille in my dining area if I could afford it!
About halfway through our meal, we’d discover just how right our choice in location was as there were reports of a nasty disturbance in the mall originally involving reports of gunshots that were later found to be unproven.
For us, it was no matter as the only attack we were making was upon the delicious meal placed before us!
We didn’t even need to send the infamous signal Admiral Yamamoto sent to his attack fleet (Nitakayama nobore! – “Climb Mount Niitaka!”) to make a successful go of our mission which was to properly celebrate Gram’s birthday and remind her of happy times when she was living in Japan… 🙂
