Katie received her second dose of the Pfizer vaccine and Alex just got his first as we had been waiting for one of his medications to completely leave his system before letting him have the vaccine so that any problems that occurred after would be attributable to the vaccine rather than having the other medication introduce a bit of doubt).
After waiting the proscribed time after the jabs, it was time for the kids to get a treat at the DQ just up the hill along the New Bern Avenue.
A happy bonus was that Nicholas happened to be on duty and the terrified look on his face as he was manning the French fry station was *PRICELESS*. I remember how my father used to make being on duty when he came swanning into the restaurant where I was working such a joyful experience so I’ve tried to avoid turning up at DQ whilst Nicholas is on duty…being somewhat lactose intolerant, this has proven to be a fairly easy thing to do.
But Katie was owed a late lunch and DQ is where she wanted it so up the hill we go!
Alex was thrilled with his customary diet Dr Pepper and also got a special treat of fries which is not something he usually gets as it’s not particularly ketogenic friendly.
Katie went with a burger and an upgraded treat in the form of a Blizzard and I figured I’d give “The Flamethrower” a try.
That’s when the fun began starting with the quickest delivery of the food to our table you can imagine and then he was off to the grill area to continue with his shift. Literally, he was in sight for all of five seconds…most of that to drop the burgers in our hands and he was gone!
Now, the charitable explanation for this is that he said he needed to get back to his station in a timely fashion.
Personally, I think he was doing his level best not to be at ground zero when his treachery vis-a-vis the Flamethrower was discovered. Let me tell you…that burger lived up to its name as it was definitely loaded with the sauce and I was darned thankful for the tea. And he had made that burger personally so I had suspicions as to whether it was the regulation amount of the hot sauce.
He would later own up to the fact that he had doubled the hot sauce. He was pretty darned proud he had managed to pull a practical prank on me, in fact. Too bad for him that his “extra” sauce was actually the proper spiciness and that I truly loved his creation.
After dropping Katie and Alex off with Julia, it was time for Nicholas to get his second Pfizer jab and for me to fulfill the promise of returning to the vaccination site with the third kid that day! 🙂
