Whilst everyone else was off on holiday at the beach, the weather turned extremely nasty round the Raleigh area during the afternoon which included an EF-3 tornado that touched ground near Sanford and heading northeast eventually going right through downtown barely north of Washington Elementary School and ripping through Shaw University before continuing on East-Northeast through downtown and away from the area.
At its closest approach, the tornado (which was rain-wrapped so you couldn’t actually see the funnel) passed about three miles north of the house.
Miraculously, the only damage to the kid’s school was a couple of A/C units got ripped away from the buildings.
Another tornado passed within a quarter mile of Gram’s house in western Fayetteville near Ft Bragg and completely took out Benjamin Martin Elementary School just up Riley Rd toward base.
