It’s been more than a little bit busy here at the house the last couple of weeks since fleeing the wrath of Charley. It looks like Charley has done his worst in the house with all of the boxes and stuff all over the place.
But that changed this morning when our movers arrived to pack most of our stuff into a huge 53′ moving van. The living room (which rather reminded me of the final scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark and the government warehouse full of boxes!) was emptied rather quickly and the furniture wasn’t too far behind the boxes. They wrapped the furniture with this cool stuff that looked like super-tough oversized Saran wrap and the packing job was fantastic. I figured they’d need two of those huge trucks but we barely made it halfway. The crew was polite, each strong as an ox, and very diligent…so much so that the entire operation was completed in a little over six hours.
Ah, but that was the easy part…now it was time to collect and pack the stuff they didn’t take and get it out of the house as well as starting the clean-up process. That’s the way to know true pain…you don’t really appreciate how much requires cleaning until you have to clean the house for the new owners. We decided to stay overnight (camping style sans the tent…i.e. sleep on the floor!) for the garage sale the next day.
And if you didn’t know pain before, sleeping on the floor if you’re not used to it is a quick way to get an introduction! 🙁
But we still had time to call Gram and wish her a happy birthday. We won’t divulge the age…unless the bribes are awfully good! Unfortunately it wasn’t the happiest of occasions as Lee had to undergo emergency surgery on the colon for a condition discovered not long after he returned from Iowa. Here’s hopes for a speedy recovery…so don’t be a bad patient like Admiral Halsey, eh? 🙂
