It’s been over 24 hours since that one last hug we shared in the car park outside of “Pizza Provisions” before it was time to head our separate ways…you back to your new habitat in Burkot Hall and me with the boys back to Raleigh so Nicholas can make it in time for his hockey adventures and Alex to just hang out and chill.

It was far harder to make that turn out of the parking space and head toward home than even I’d believed possible.

Looking at the schedule of events for your next few days as you settle into your new habitat in Buies Creek, it’s taken every last bit of willpower to not bug you with texts or a phone call wondering how you’re getting on down the road a ways.

It’s not for lack of desire, I can assure you!

But this weekend is the time for you to finally experience the joys of being kinda sorta on your own in your new home for the next few years and it looks you’re going to be properly exhausted by the time you head off to your first class of the new semester.

That’s as it should be.

And even though you know full well that I’ll always be available by whatever form of communication you choose whenever you wish it to be so, I hope that you’re settling in with your new roommate and that you two will be able to not only peacefully co-exist but hopefully find a friendship that may well last you a lifetime.

If you’re lucky, it won’t take three weeks of silence until your roommate pulls out a violin and plays the opening movements of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade”! 🙂

Miss Lindsay seems to be a lovely young lady and I can’t wait to hear of whatever adventures and conspiracies the two of you may hatch along the way to your respective degrees. Between you two and the two young ladies across the inter-connecting washroom, I expect great things to come from those rooms in the middle of Burkot Hall.

Preferably not some sort of state of general disorder and insurrection but anything short of that is fair game.

I do rather hope Miss Lindsay will take me up on my desire for her to harass you to within an inch of your sanity…after all, someone has to keep you on your toes and guessing at what comes next and if it can’t be me some 45 minutes away from you, I’m not opposed to letting her have a go at taking the mickey with you! 😉

I’m sure it’s going to take a while to adjust to your new life there in the Creek and having three young ladies in relatively close proximity.

Think of it as an opportunity to do a hands-on seminar we call “Diplomacy 101” complete with practical labs.

I predict your first lab assignment will come very quickly when the four of you sort out the washroom protocols!

I would so love to be able to hear the internal conversation when it becomes very clear that the joys of the Hollywood shower will be something for weekends away from campus and holidays!

For what it’s worth, I do believe you’ll appreciate that pleasure so much more when you’ve not had one in a while! That’s why the Hollywood shower was always such a treat on a submarine because you were lucky if you could score one in a 6-12 month mission underwater and that only for doing something truly exceptional that came to the notice of the Captain.

Negotiating the rules of engagement for the bog was probably the most fraught diplomacy I have ever practiced in all of my years. 🙂

Anywho, I was missing you terribly by the time I saw the camel sculpture in front of the arena about three minutes after we went our separate ways. And I miss you terribly now!

But as much as I miss you, I truly hope that you have the time of your life at Campbell and really get to enjoy the college experience the way it should be!

I know you’ll work super hard as you always have and I’m sure there will be stress aplenty along the way but do try to take a breath once in a while and have some fun!

And whilst you’re at it…do keep in mind this one unassailable truth of the universe: I love you more than you will ever possibly know!

Roll humps! 🙂
